Here at sundaynevercomes we have a deep respect for the great city that brought most of us together. CHICO. Yesterday Chico’s most prominent athlete and favorite son finally began to step out of the shadow of that flip flopping piece of shit Brett Favre. Rodgers threw for a touchdown and also rushed for a 1 yard touchdown on Monday Night Football in the Packers opening game. It was a great sight to see Aaron spike the ball and attempt a Lambeau leap into the arms of embracing Packers fans. Congrats Aaron!
i know im a loser its sunday night and i don’t have HBO so i wasn’t able to watch the season premiere of Entourage. I instead decided to watch the MTV Video Music Awards. Growing up I distinctly remember the VMAs as being an award show that delivers on unforgettable performances and collaborations but i felt that the last few years have been downright pathetic as they have tried to hard to go over the top and have forgotten why this award show was so successful.
Reasons why this show was terrible:
1. The host is a fucking joke, the guy talks so fast then runs off stage he seems scared and ruins the punch line on almost every joke. They run out of money and couldn’t afford a decent host?
2. The location, i think there are about 500 people at this award show. The whole back lot movie idea is lame too. Performances can be over the top but let the artist engage the fans without this movie theme.
3. The sheer unpreparedness of MTV, from terrible camera shots, unprepared presenters, and artists who don’t know where to go and pick up their awards.
4. VMA ALERTS: Why tell your audience what is coming in 10, 30, and 90 minutes down the road. What happened to the element of surprise that this award show was built on. If you bought commercial time during this award show i would be pissed because the viewers are too busy answering useless trivia.
5. The girls from The Hills…… how did they get famous and what talent do the posses?
6. MTV trying to single handedly resurrect Britney Spears’ career. I mean come on she looks so awkward and out of place the bitch is still mentally ill and not ready to be in the spotlight again. Why shower her with awards she deserved 8 years ago, its not our fault MTV you got it wrong back then. 8 years ago she was the biggest thing in music, can’t we just let her fade away into obscurity.
7. Kanye’s new song. I guess it should be called Gnarls Barkley’s B-Side. Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse our so much more original than you are, stick to ripping off Daft Punk your pretty good at that.
Now there were some great moments hidden in this shitty award show and i will point them out:
1. DJ AM and Travis Barker save the day musically with their intermission songs. seriously props to them. Collaborating with artists and playing covers was fun to watch. I kept watching just to see what they would play next. A-Ha cover was ill.
2. Letting the host get political and rag on virgins. Russell Brand you did something right tonight. Way to catch everyone off guard and use the one opportunity when millions of people are watching and use it to help Senator Obama and take shots at virgins. I wonder if the producers were ready for it?
3. Slash and Shia Lebouf presenting….. now there are two celebrities i would love to split a 1/5 of jack with and seek out some sorostitutes.
4. Slipknot presenting Best Hip Hop Award with McLovin! I hope McLovin was really wasted.
5. Kid Rock. Dude came out let the crowd know he isn’t some lip synching pop star, played his song, had a collab with Lil Wayne. No gimmick just good ole’ rock & roll.
check out the trailer for a new series documenting the Red Bull Riders Cup called “school of surf” - The series is premiering on VBS.TV next week…..it documents highschool competitive surfing in a one of a kind contest format. The series is being looked at very seriously by many major networks (MTV etc.) to obtain broadcasting rights for the 2009 contest as a full blown reality show (think the Hills meets surfing in southern california). This season, is a prelude to next season, and is being syndicated through multiple on-line outlets. I am lucky enough to play an integral part in the 2009 Red Bull Rider’s Cup series, next thing you know i’m going to be hooking Robby up with Lauren from The Hills, Jahan with America’s next top model or Aaron $$ with some chick form my super sweet 16 - oh shiiit… check it out, and then tune into vbs.tv next week to watch the high school drama unfold!! shaka bro
These days between all the celebreality bullshit and the six different law & order spin-offs it becomes really hard to find quality television. But fear not The Shield has just returned on FX for its 7th and FINAL SEASON. It is really hard to find great television shows that keep you coming back week after week and year after year. I put this show in the same category as Entourage, The Sopranos, and The Wire (all these shows are on HBO where the ability to be creative and shock the audience is easier). This has been the flagship cable series for FX that paved the way for Nip/Tuck, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and the newest series Sons of Anarchy (which starts tonight and looks bad ass). If you dont know anything about The Shield, the show centers around Vic Mackey the leader of Farmington’s Strike Team. Vic tows the line between crooked cop/police hero on a day to day basis and deals with the most ruthless gangsters and criminals in los angeles, the show has also been a place where huge stars come to show their dramatic acting chops, Forrest Whitaker, Glenn Close, and Anthony Anderson have been major players over the seasons. Last nights season premiere started off with a bang with Vic’s partner Shane finding his wife tied up and then getting pistol whipped by Vic, all this to the tune of Social Distortion’s “Reach For The Sky”. I have watched two of my favorite television shows The Sopranos and The Wire come to an end one with a shockingly uneventful ending and one that left no loose ends….i am excited to see what the creators of The Shield have in store for their fans as they have always been to please fans with their exciting season finales and storylines that always close with people having little questions.
