Sports + Government Interaction = Bullshit

Friday, December 12th, 2008

So once again our Government has decided to get it’s hands into sports. This week Congressman Joe Barton, R-Texas, convened a BCS hearing. Stating that he wanted to figure out if the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) was an illegal business. Funny thing is, he had not said anything until his beloved Texas Longhorns did not make the Big 12 Title game and therefor had no real shot of playing in the National Title game (UF vs OK). Sounds like an abuse of power to me. Since this has came up three other members of Congress have stepped forward, calling the Justice Department to investigate the BCS. Representatives, Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii), Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) and Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) are introducing a resolution rejecting the often criticized bowl system as an illegal restriction on trade because only the largest universities compete in most of the major bowl games. The resolution would require Justice’s antitrust division to investigate whether the system violates federal law. Again let us look at the people behind this move, Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii)… Hawaii has had some good seasons as of late, even undefeated seasons. They however have not made the national title game, while 1 loss teams have. Thing is, Hawaii rarely plays any ranked schools, so based on their strength of schedule they shouldn’t make the title game. If it just went directly to the undefeated teams, our big schools would stop scheduling other big schools and all we would have is blowouts all year…. no fun. Same thing can be said for Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) whose home team, Boise State has also went undefeated without reaching the national title game. Same story there, they don’t play enough good teams to deserve to play for the title. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) watched his Georgia Bulldogs not make the title game last year and is now taking this opportunity to cry about it.

Look, I agree that the system may be flawed with all of these computer rankings and this ridiculous equation that makes the BCS tick, but I also think that our Justice Department is better served looking out for our interests elsewhere. Remember last time that Congress got involved… Last years Baseball Steroids fiasco… nothing came of that either. Plus at least with that everyone knew that Steroids are illegal to take no matter what. Here they are talking about a system agreed upon by everyone in 1998. College Football will fix this in due time, Congress needs to stick to fixing our economy and that little 7 year war that we have been involved in. I am personally ashamed of these Congressmen for abusing their power like this.

congrats to one chico local

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Here at sundaynevercomes we have a deep respect for the great city that brought most of us together. CHICO. Yesterday Chico’s most prominent athlete and favorite son finally began to step out of the shadow of that flip flopping piece of shit Brett Favre. Rodgers threw for a touchdown and also rushed for a 1 yard touchdown on Monday Night Football in the Packers opening game. It was a great sight to see Aaron spike the ball and attempt a Lambeau leap into the arms of embracing Packers fans. Congrats Aaron!

School of Surf

Friday, September 5th, 2008

check out the trailer for a new series documenting the Red Bull Riders Cup called “school of surf” - The series is premiering on VBS.TV next week…..it documents highschool competitive surfing in a one of a kind contest format. The series is being looked at very seriously by many major networks (MTV etc.) to obtain broadcasting rights for the 2009 contest as a full blown reality show (think the Hills meets surfing in southern california). This season, is a prelude to next season, and is being syndicated through multiple on-line outlets. I am lucky enough to play an integral part in the 2009 Red Bull Rider’s Cup series, next thing you know i’m going to be hooking Robby up with Lauren from The Hills, Jahan with America’s next top model or Aaron $$ with some chick form my super sweet 16 - oh shiiit… check it out, and then tune into vbs.tv next week to watch the high school drama unfold!! shaka bro

Back to the banks 2008 - strip clubs anyone?

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Back to the banks, one of the down-right nastiest street skating contests around went down on saturday. The Brooklyn Banks are one of the most heaviest known street skating spots in the entire world….in the heart of the BK. A while back the city of NY tried to bann street skating at the banks, and with much fighting, stabbing, kicking and beating from Steve Rodriquez (of 5Boro skateboards) the banks were able to stay alive and kicking, or rather cracking, for the world of street skating. This is the second back to the banks contest @ the brooklyn banks and it went down in true gutter NY fashion, $5,000 cash being handed out to the winners all in $1.00 bills - strip clubs anyone? below is the results and footage from the contest.

USA vs. China Basketball

Monday, August 11th, 2008

For those of you that didn’t catch the game already; USA vs. China basketball was a good game… for entertaining Americans that is. The game turned out to be a blowout, with lots of crowd pleasing and showmanship. Lebron James and Dwayne wade played major roles in the U.S. win. Here is a highlight reel to give you a feel for how advanced U.S. basketball is over the rest of the world.

Danny Way gets broke off, Kyle Loza’s electric death / doom; X Games 14 kick it off nasty.

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Yesterday was a big day for the x games. well obviously it was a big day, it was the first day of competition - for all your retards that didn’t know, the x games are going down as I type this in Los Angeles. Most of which is crackin at the staples center, but the greater LA area has pretty much been taken over by nut jobs from all over the country who come to pimp action sports and make some loot off of their passions. Hey, for the most part they are the innovators of the sport, so give them some credit when they want to please their sponsors by competing in the most commercialized competition to exist. That’s what the big guys (Hurley, Toyota, Target etc..) pay the big money for. To have their brands logo atop the biggest action sports podium in the world, in front of millions of viewers, in an attempt to sway the young naive 16 year old grom to buy what ryan sheckler buys. Yes, America!

Anyways for those of you that didn’t see the x games yesterday, here’s a run down of some shit that popped off. Danny Way, a true OG’ in skateboarding, literally almost died. I thought dude broke his neck, back, shoulder and femur all at once when i saw this bail. This crash is so gnarly it’s insane. However the insanity doesn’t stop there. about and hour after this crash, Danny Way returned, completed his next 2 runs, and took 2nd palce in the fucking contest; apparently there will be no holding super-robot-wolverine-terminator-Danny-Way back at the X Games this year. look below for the clip.

Danny Way - Broke the fuck off.

In other news, Kyle Loza, laced one of the craziest things I have ever seen on a motorcycle. He called it the “Electric Death” or “Electric Doom” i’m not sure but thats beside the point, basically it is a gainer backflip with only his body, over the handle bars, holding on with one hand. Sounds ridiculous? it is. The trick garnered him first place in the Best Trick contest as it had never been done before. He barely lands it and goes barreling into the foam pad/barrels after the landing, but still, he takes first and goes down in freestyle moto history. Check it below.

Kyle Loza - Electric Death Electric Doom

stay tuned for some gnarly crazy extreme mountain dew radtacular off the chain make em say ughhhh’ balls of steel action this weekend at Sundaynevercomes.com
