2009 NFL Mock Draft

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Well the time has come once again for the NFL Draft. This is my estimate on who goes where in the first round.

1. Detroit Lions - Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia.

The Lions really blew last year, and you cannot win the big one without a signal caller. I also would not be suprised if they took an OT. The QB crop may be better next year and it would help to solidify their line.

2. St Louis Rams - Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

Bulger has no protection to throw and Jackson has no body to make holes for him to hit.  They Need a legit left tackle.

3. Kansas City Chiefs - Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

I bet they would actually like to trade down for more picks and less money spent on their first rounder but I don’t really seeing anyone wanting to move up to #3 unless there is a team that really wants Mark Sanchez. Since they won’t trade they will take the best all around player in the draft I think.

4. Seattle Seahawks - Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

The Seahawks LT is 35 and coming off of micro-fracture surgery, their best bet is to take a stud LT and be done with it for the next 10-15 years. Also look for them to nab  Michael Crabtree or maybe even Mark Sanchez if they think he is their QB post  Matt Hasselbeck.

5. Cleveland Browns - Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

This depends on if they trade Braylon Edwards, if the Giants pull the trigger and get him then I think the Browns will take Crabtree to replace him. I think this trade would help both teams a lot.

6. Cincinnati Bengals - Andre Smith, OT, Alabama

The Bengals offensive line Blows.

7. Oakland Raiders - Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri

I think the Raiders have more pressing needs but it is fucking Al Davis after all, he will always draft a star instead of filling a more important need. (i.e. Jamarcus Russel)

8. Jacksonville Jaguars - Mark Sanchez, QB, USC

David Garrard is a good QB, but he will not take the Jaguars anywhere in the playoffs. If they have the opportunity to take a QB that will I suggest they deal Garrard and take Sanchez.

9. Green Bay Packers - B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College

Fuck. This means he will not fall to the Broncos but oh well. The Packers won’t pass up on the only legit 1st round DT in this draft. He fits there D and will hopefully terrorize Cutler for years to come!

10. San Francisco 49ers - Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas

I can’t believe he falls this far and I think this is a great value for the 9ers at 10. He is a great hybrid and will be an impact player. Great to pair him up with Patrick Willis. Also look for them to take an OL. They NEED one.

11. Buffalo Bills - Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State

First off, haha to the Bills taking T.O. he will ruin their locker room too. Maybin is a great DE and although they need OL help I see them taking him and beefing there D-Line up.

12. Denver Broncos - Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU

The Broncos defense the last couple years has been fucking disgusting. If Raji falls then I think they jump on him, but in this mock Jackson is a great value for them. He can apply pressure on QB’s and stop the run. I think the Broncos draft heavy Defense. Go Broncos.

13. Washington Redskins - Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

If they can get a solid OT I think they will have had a great offseason, locking up there offensive and defensive line.  They could also take a DE to compliment Haynesworth.

14. New Orleans Saints - Chris “Beanie” Wells, RB, Ohio State

Obviously the Saints need to improve on Defense. This may be interesting though, if they get Wells he can be the perfect compliment to Reggie Bush. They have different running styles and if they get an elite RB duo to go along with their passing game, they will score a shit load of points.

15. Houston Texans - Brian Cushing, OLB, USC

The Texans could be a sleeper team this year, watch. They really need to address the SS position but Cushing is a talent with great work ethic and I think they snatch him up.

16. San Diego Chargers - Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State

This is not there biggest need but there aren’t a lot of OT’s left that are a value at this pick, plus they need a RT which you can get later. If they take him and he moves to Safety they could really beef up there already solid secondary. By the way I hate the fucking Chargers… not really…. just Phillip Rivers. Also look for them to go WR.

17. New York Jets - Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia

The combo of Thomas Jones and Leon Washington is pretty decent but Moreno will be to good to pass on. Plus Jones is 31 and we all know about the wall RB’s hit around that time.

18. Denver Broncos - Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC

The Broncos need a new defensive leader. Brian Dawkins will certainly be the leader this year and next but the middle linebacker is the QB of the defense. Maualuga is that leader and hell of a hitter. Plus with this pick they can assure that D.J. Williams will be able to play his natural outside linebacker position.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee

The Bucs are revamping there defense and with Gaines Adams on one end and Robert Ayers on the other, their pass rush will be legit. Watch out for Josh Freeman too.

20. Detroit lions - Everette Brown, DE, Florida State

Since they used there first pick on Stafford they need to start bulking the line on both sides. Brown provides instant pressure on any QB and the Lions desparately need that.

21. Philadelphia Eagles - Darius Heyward-Bay, WR, Maryland

I can see them moving up to take a RB such as Moreno but if they don’t I see them adding an offensive weapon such as Heyward-Bay. Maybe McNabb will stop bitching like a little girl now.

22. Minnesota Vikings - Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Last year it seemed like if the Vike’s had a QB they could have done some damage. They don’t need an amazing QB to run there system and I think Freeman can be their answer. Similar to what baltimore did with Flacco last year.

23. New England Patriots - James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State

This is a perfect fit for the Patriots and how they draft players. He is a hard worker and will do his job well there. Plus, Tedy Bruschi is gonna be 36.

24. Atlanta Falcons - Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State

Matt Ryan had a fucking amazing rookie year and the Falcons need to do whatever they can to continue to surround him with weapons to bring up his TD numbers. Pettigrew is a great fit in Atlanta and he will make there offense more dangerous.

25. Miami Dolphins - Percy Harvin, WR, Florida

This is the pick I question the most, with Ted Ginn Jr developing it would be interesting to see him and Harvin playing together. Harvin can do almost anything on offense and can also return kicks and punts.

26. Baltimore Ravens - Hakeem Nicks, WR, UNC

Offensive picks in the first round 2 years in a row for the Ravens? Yes. Flacco needs a WR that he can throw it up to. This will give them a little versatility on the offensive side of the ball. The next 10 years will be defensive picks for them haha

27. Indianapolis Colts - Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi

The Colts need a lot of up front pressure in their cover 1 and 2 defenses. Jerry can give that to them and help solidify their D.

28. Buffalo Bills - William Beatty, OT, Connecticut

After trading Peters they need to fill the hole on the O line. Beatty will eventually be the starter and do fine for them. Once again none of this matters since T.O. is there now and he will ruin the team.

29. New York Giants - Eben Britton, OT, Arizona

The Giants need this pick. I could see them taking an OLB like Clay Matthews but I think they want to get a first round OT and be done with it.

30. Tennessee Titans - Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut

They have to replace Haynesworth at some point but at this position in the draft there isn’t a DT that is worth taking for them. Butler will help out there strong defense.

31. Arizona Cardinals - Donald Brown, RB, Connecticut

Two Uconn players in a row? Yes. The Cardinals need an every down back and he is it. I think he is way under rated and they are getting a bargain here for him.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Alex Mack, C, Cal

Pittsburgh won’t make waves in the Draft, they just take the right players for what they need… every time.

So that’s that.

Sports + Government Interaction = Bullshit

Friday, December 12th, 2008

So once again our Government has decided to get it’s hands into sports. This week Congressman Joe Barton, R-Texas, convened a BCS hearing. Stating that he wanted to figure out if the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) was an illegal business. Funny thing is, he had not said anything until his beloved Texas Longhorns did not make the Big 12 Title game and therefor had no real shot of playing in the National Title game (UF vs OK). Sounds like an abuse of power to me. Since this has came up three other members of Congress have stepped forward, calling the Justice Department to investigate the BCS. Representatives, Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii), Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) and Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) are introducing a resolution rejecting the often criticized bowl system as an illegal restriction on trade because only the largest universities compete in most of the major bowl games. The resolution would require Justice’s antitrust division to investigate whether the system violates federal law. Again let us look at the people behind this move, Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii)… Hawaii has had some good seasons as of late, even undefeated seasons. They however have not made the national title game, while 1 loss teams have. Thing is, Hawaii rarely plays any ranked schools, so based on their strength of schedule they shouldn’t make the title game. If it just went directly to the undefeated teams, our big schools would stop scheduling other big schools and all we would have is blowouts all year…. no fun. Same thing can be said for Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) whose home team, Boise State has also went undefeated without reaching the national title game. Same story there, they don’t play enough good teams to deserve to play for the title. Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) watched his Georgia Bulldogs not make the title game last year and is now taking this opportunity to cry about it.

Look, I agree that the system may be flawed with all of these computer rankings and this ridiculous equation that makes the BCS tick, but I also think that our Justice Department is better served looking out for our interests elsewhere. Remember last time that Congress got involved… Last years Baseball Steroids fiasco… nothing came of that either. Plus at least with that everyone knew that Steroids are illegal to take no matter what. Here they are talking about a system agreed upon by everyone in 1998. College Football will fix this in due time, Congress needs to stick to fixing our economy and that little 7 year war that we have been involved in. I am personally ashamed of these Congressmen for abusing their power like this.

Welcome to the SEC kid

congrats to one chico local

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Here at sundaynevercomes we have a deep respect for the great city that brought most of us together. CHICO. Yesterday Chico’s most prominent athlete and favorite son finally began to step out of the shadow of that flip flopping piece of shit Brett Favre. Rodgers threw for a touchdown and also rushed for a 1 yard touchdown on Monday Night Football in the Packers opening game. It was a great sight to see Aaron spike the ball and attempt a Lambeau leap into the arms of embracing Packers fans. Congrats Aaron!
