One of the most Prolific Graffiti Writers of all time caught: Buket TKO

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Buket TKO (aka Cyrus Yazdani) is one of the most prolific graffiti writers of all time and he has been pinched, caught, fucked, hemmed up, whatever you want to call it….this shit is for real.
Cyrus Yazdani aka Buket TKO
Growing up in northern california I have been seeing his shit up everywhere for as long as I can remember, from Las Vegas, to Seattle, to Colorado, to Portland, and to the Bay Area. I remeber a few months back he hit the top of these huge drive in movie theatres off of Highway 50 in sacramento, the shit was probabaly 20 feet wide, 6 feet tall and around 70 feet up in the air. A week or so after he hit the drive in movies, I noticed a huge block letter he did on a 100 foot water tower near the garden highway in sac which read prominently: “B U K E T”. He is in TKO - a graffiti crew consisting of some of the most savage graffiti writers in the country. Well, I guess like they say, what goes around comes around. Buket TKO was arrested a few months back in May and is standing to face trial on 32 counts of felony vandalism, and if convicted on all charges, will face 10 to 14 years in prison (latimes.com). That is crazy to me…..anyways, it is one of the, if not the, most prolific graffiti writer ever to be caught and charged with such audacity. The only one I can think is GKAE from MSK crew in the mid 90’s who ended up doing around 5 years in prison when he was convicted.

Here is the whole story - see below for some footage of crazy ass “Buket” hitting a freeway overpass in the middle of the day;
“A man described as one of Los Angeles’ most prolific taggers, whose daredevil antics were featured on YouTube, was charged today with 32 counts of felony vandalism. The charges come after what authorities called a yearlong graffiti spree that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage.

Cyrus Yazdani, 24, a professional graphic artist known on the street as “Buket,” faces a maximum sentence of 10 to 14 years in state prison if convicted of all counts, authorities said. Yazdani, who was arrested Tuesday, was on probation for a 2007 felony vandalism conviction.

His “Buket” moniker has been splashed…”

Dependent, Independent, Metalcore, Emo: It’s All Punk to Them
By JON CARAMANICA
Published: July 28, 2008
UNIONDALE, N.Y. — “You guys are supporting a very independent band,” Ben Liebsch of the emergent emo band You, Me, and Everyone We Know told a crowd of 100 or so from a small stage on a remote slice of asphalt in the parking lot of Nassau Coliseum here on Saturday afternoon. “There are lots of dependent bands playing elsewhere.”

Chromeo @ The Fillmore in SF. Review by Timmy G

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

It is safe to say that Chromeo is one of the most unique and best bands out. I am so glad that I heard they were coming a couple months ago because there were crowds of people scrambling for tickets on the corner of fillmore and geary last night in SF. The show opened up with DJ Peanut Butter Wolf, who started the night off mixing classic songs and videos with the dvdj. PBW, who practically invented this fuse of mixing tracks with videos delivered goods to the bay area audience. Making it clear early on that he was from “the 408,” PBW played a variety of tracks from Pantara to RBL Posse, the Jacksons to Hammer. This kind of diverse sound carried over as soon as Chromeo started their set. Chromeo is the only band that can cover snip it’s of Journey and Dire Straits and give a too short and Mac Dre shout out in the same show. Chromeo’s mix of funk, rock, hip hop, and love for the 80’s was eagerly awaited by the sold out crowd. They had the audience into their show and moving from beginning to end with highlights like “Your’re so gangsta” and the title track to their new album “Fancy Footwork.” Although it’s impossible for the two of them to play every instrument on every track, Dave 1 and P-thugg multi-task between guitars, keyboards, and cowbells to make one great show. Definitely catch Chromeo next time they come to town. Just make sure to find out where the encore show is going to be.

What happened to the music and the message that I love?

Monday, July 28th, 2008

its a great question. My youth was spent listening to countless hours of punk music. Punk is over 30 years old now and if you look around there arent too many punk bands on warped tour, on the radio, or on the television. H20 tries to answer that in their new video for the song “What Happened”. Theres a lot of great footage of the band at a record store just pulling out some of those classic albums. The video has an apperance by Alkaline Trio lead singer Matt Skiba…..H20 GO!

Vincent Bugliosi - “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder”

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Vincent Bugliosi is is a very well respected American district attorney and author. He is best known for his prosecution of Charles Manson in 1970. He has recently authored and published the book titled “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder” it is very controversial to say the least. The startling thing is that his claims, while bold, are grounded in fact and they leave very little up to circumstantial evidence, as most of the points he brings up are well documented.

Here is Vincent Bugliosi’s opening statements during the House Judiciary Committee hearing on the constitutional limits of executive power (aka, if impeaching Bush is a discussion the legislature should have) ……I urge you to sit through it for a few minutes as it is definitely worth it. Peep game!

i am a real writer now. limo’s, red bull and skateboarding.

Friday, July 25th, 2008

hi. for those of you that don’t know, our good friend and resident radtacular awesome dude, jonothan carrabba (aka Jono) co-owns and operates a magazine called Submerge in sacramento. It is a free bi-weekly print magazine that covers all the rad shit going on in sac and the circulation (distribution) is pretty damn extensive. I am lucky enough (obviously) to be involved in rad shit that goes down in sac. so I was able to write a small little blurb/story about skateboarding in a limo with cool people that they ended up running. pick up a free copy if youre in the 916 and peep your homie in action. here it is in full.

No Skating Allowed

There I was, chillin, maxxin’ out, “lurkin hard” in a limo, drinking a Red
Bull Vodka, on my way with the Red Bull Sacramento Crew to swoop up some of the nastiest local skateboarders in the 916. I knew it was going to be ill, I mean shit we’re in a limo, so I sat back and waited for the madness to ensue.

We pull up to the old Flatspot skate shop downtown to see a dozen or so sweating kids skating flat ground awaiting our arrival. The Limo driver, we’ll call him Dan, gets out of his driver seat and opens the door allowing everyone in. First things first – “beer me” someone exclaims as an ice cold one gets tossed into his hands. “Do you have any CDs” I reply to the dude clutching the beer and almost before I’m finished I get a sarcastic reply “yeah…….see deeze nuts!” I should’ve known not to give him such a golden opportunity. After a few quick laughs we all saddle up, cameras and lights chillin in the back, and head over to the first spot; granite skatepark off power inn. Although there was nothing illegal about skating the biggest park in all of Northern Cali - our crew just needed to warm up and get their bones loose on their home turf.

So we pull up to Granite like straight pimp’s, believe that, we are ballin right now. Everyone piles out of the Limo to skate the park and immediately everything is getting destroyed. These skateboarders are killing this park, literally, name a trick and it was laced. After about an hour of the park, a few flip tricks over the double set courtesy of Kyle Duval, and stenciling all the local groms decks (redbullskateboarding.com) – we jump back in the fly mobile (Dan’s Limo) and head to some gnarly 11 stair at a school in Fair Oaks, CA.

We pull up to this handrail and it is pitch black. As soon as Dannie Boy let’s us out, I realize we are in the fuckin suburbs somewhere and we’re being mad loud. I gave it 15 minutes before the cops show up, this in mind we quickly set up the lights, and they get to work. A few warm up ollies and things start getting dope. This little man, Blue Turner, is destroying it – backside smith grinds like it’s his day Job. Then next thing you know Rob Mason barrels through and starts trying to backlip the damn thing. It was dope, the Lurk Hard homies were representing.

After another hour or so session, we jump back in the Limo and head over to Ink in Mid-Town for some grub and drinks. It is around 11:00 when we arrive; we pile out of the limo and head inside to eat. An hour or two later, a few drinks, and a chunky meal we’re ready to peace out. All in all, the night was an unforgettable experience. Big ups to Armain Austin, everyone at Red Bull, Lurk Hard, and everyone who was along for the ride….thanks for a dope evening!

stop motion is time consuming.

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

“Stop motion (or frame-by-frame) animation is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved by small amounts between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames are played as a continuous sequence.”
from wikipedia

i can only imagine. anyone who has the patience, dedication, drive whatever you want to call it to put together an entire movie or few minute clip using frame-by-frame photographs gets an A in my book. That shit has got to be mad time consuming and probably takes a lot of drugs; meet “PES” - dude is a beast.

anyways look below for some of his best “stop” motion films, shit is for reaalllll.

Nas is relentless - delivering petition of 620,000 signatures to fox news.

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Nas is at it again, for those of you that don’t know, we posted nas’s new video for his single “sly fox” last week. Apparently nas isn’t letting fox news punk him, or at least he’s trying to not let it go down. I like nas, a lot of people hate on him, but dude is a beast in my book. Fox news is fuckin wack, and I am sorry if my views are slighted, or bias, but I don’t give a fuck - fuck fox news.

Apparently Nas will hand deliver a petition of 620,127 signatures to fox news headquarters this wednesday, July 23rd, “demanding that FOX end its pattern of racist attacks against Black Americans including presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.”

“Over the last several weeks, FOX has had a string of incidents that many believe are a veiled attempt to prey on racism and intolerance and cast the Obamas as “outsiders”: an on-screen graphic referred to Mrs. Obama as “Obama’s baby mama,” a pundit “confused” Obama with Osama and then joked they should both be assassinated, and an anchor called a loving fist bump between Barack and Michelle a “terrorist fist jab.” In February, Bill O’Reilly talked about calling a “lynching party” to deal with Michelle.” Read the whole story here, at concreteloop.com
